1. "Aurora"
Lyrics copyright 1997 Polly Moller/Silver Wheel Music
Beyond our vision, beyond our
hearing
Given up for lost, almost forgotten
Your priests of old lie long dead
Beyond the veil you've raged in silence
Now you've returned to demand our tribute
A murmured call sign on a frequency unused
Dark Star Sierra, come
in, come in
Dark Star Sierra, come in, come in
Hail Aurora, who is no longer rosy-fingered Dawn,
but a machine unbounded by the laws of flight
Now the terrified sky unzips
to let you by
A rip that heals behind, the only trace of you
Like beads upon a string, your necklace left behind
A path that blurs and slowly vanishes from sight
We hear your voice, a shriek of triumph
That grips the heart and body outside of the light
Dark Star Sierra, come
in, come in
Dark Star Sierra, come in, come in
Hail Aurora, who is no longer rosy-fingered Dawn,
but a machine unbounded by the laws of flight
If you were lady of first light
or the dreaded craft of steel
they would still deny you in the brotherhood of power
Deal gently with your people when you next appear

"Don Dorcha's Revel"
Lyrics copyright 1997 Polly Moller/Silver Wheel Music
Shall I tell you the terrible
truth?
The world is no roiling pit of darkness
It is an object, still and suspended,
white and shiny, to which nothing sticks.
Such a world brings only tears
to the hot blood of my people.
If you want to know where to find me
I'll be at Don Dorcha's revel.
He says, I will never
deny your strength
I will never deny your mind
I will never deny your power
My home is always yours
One day becomes seven at his revel
One week becomes seven at his revel
One hour becomes seven at his revel
One year becomes seven at his revel
And now I find I stand beyond
The ninth wave where exile lives
Do you find you stand one foot on either side
of the river that flows between?
And does it matter to you
at whose party you are seen?
If you want to know where to find me
I'll be at Don Dorcha's revel.

"Io"
Lyrics copyright 1998 Polly Moller/Silver Wheel Music
I am Io, the maiden
with horns upon my head
in the empty city echoing of glass
With the others I stand waiting
in an interminable line
for it's so rare now that we see him
the poet, the man in red
I am patient and I'm thinking
when my time comes and I reach him
I'll remind him of the day when we first met
I climbed the mountain where he dwells
to beg his mercy, that he'd take away this shape I have and let me have
some peace
It stormed hard while I was climbing.
Under overhanging rocks I clung and watched the youths below in sunshine,
laughing at their games.
Reaching as I did the summit, I said,
I want to wear those garlands.
If I made sacrifice to their gods,
would they bless me too?
I never did forsake you.
I disdained all their temptations, but I am still Io the maiden,
with horns upon my head.
The silent city looms above the street,
the dusky fading light.
No one ahead, no one behind,
I am confronted.
His eyes are still so blue.
Streaked with white his hair blows back.
He asked my name--
I don't remember what I said.
He says,
We're the last ones in this empty city.
May I have this dance?
4. "Black Rock Desert Rain"
Lyrics copyright 1998 Polly Moller/Silver Wheel Music
I'm silvered with the strength
of the rocks
stroke a feather upon me
If you've emptied out your mind
drink deep of the rain

"Blood Sugar"
Lyrics copyright 1997 Polly Moller/Silver Wheel Music
A drop of blood on sugar white
Confection of a tree by night
Whose fruits of longing shine behind
the veil that divides
I have a window with a view
above the waves
No one to ask the many questions in my heart
No ships have passed this way since I grew tall enough
To rest my chin upon the windowsill
Some days it grows so cold
That I don't feel a thing
When I cut myself to see if I still bleed
I wonder if there could be
a man
with sugar skin and lips of blood
and hair the color of the raven's wing
that looks at my red drops of blood
with dark and liquid eyes
If there were such a man
I would bind him and his brothers with my words
and I would learn to wield a sword
so that back to back we could ward off
the men of treachery
For I have grown so tall
taller than my nurse, and taller than the longing tree
but no one will ever look upon
the fruits that hang on me
and I see dawning sky each time I taste
this sugar with my blood

"Arboretum"
Lyrics copyright 1998 Polly Moller/Silver Wheel Music
The eastern fish of blue and
palest gold
suspended in the mind of tranquil pool
invites me to remove my gloves and feel the wooden rail
the rail surrounds the place I stand
with anchored beams in silence
and in the quiet dusk I stand and sense it
Moving slowly let the pool caress my scales
an impact on the water's skin of corn of pepper tree
the fin upon my back draws through the surface
Inquiring of the reaching roots
below
tell me of the southern wind of air that blows
and as you feel beyond the pool then, you can find
the nature of the flower that towers above me
a touch of it illuminates the garden
a scent of it so vague in air and water
a sight of it though water wavering
beckoning like sunlight, asking me to take a bite
and call my death down to me, lose this world
Gilling in and out and open-shut
the creaking of the beams is under-rumble
As it comes as everyday upon my back the touch of fire
the Western fire upon the water before dark
Who is the outside one, the one who stands inside me
watching my eyes turn in my head
admiring through me water, clear and dark
and quick scooping as the blackbird takes a drink?
Sweet algae served upon the water's edge
dims darker green as shadows flow above
their shapes unknown but speed and darkness call me
to invisibility, dark water under beams
Rocking back my weight is caught by wooden rail.
My one hand takes two gloves in grey distraction.
Needing no hazelnuts for Northern wisdom
the Eastern fish has glided from my sight.

"Pelen Tan"
Lyrics copyright 1997 Polly Moller/Silver Wheel Music
They have asked me, learned
lady,
Whence have you come?
From the yearning of the flute into the sky
From the hollow of a shield on the battlefield
From the seven sacred words of comfort
From a prison barred with iron
I have been asked, art thou a maiden?
I do not know but what I am
And my place is with my brothers by the light
of the pelen tan.
They have asked me, youthful
maiden,
What is your name?
I am she who comes from the river
I am she of the fourteen weapons
I am the purple dragonfly
I am the flowing moonstone
I have been asked, art thou a maiden?
I do not know but what I am
And my place is with my brothers by the light
of the pelen tan.
Why do you resist me, when
so many have tried
and failed to keep me from what is mine?
I will lead you in the dance; I'll shake a branch in my hand
We all belong together by the light of the pelen tan.

"The Song of Coinchend Cennfada"
Lyrics copyright 1998 Polly Moller/Silver Wheel Music
I am waiting for you
I am waiting for you
A spear point waits, glinting for you in the sun
I have a cup of poison and a cup of wine
The cup you choose shows me your mind
The wrong cup will slay your body
and you'll join the multitude
of dead eyes gazing out upon the sea
I miss my man, that tender flower
It was on a deeply violet night he came to me
Under unquiet sky I took his innocence
his exhausted smile and oak leaves in his hair
steadfast he was and at my side in tranquil time or war
but now he's gone a journey and I wait alone
I mourn my man, I mourn ahead of time
his lifeless body, laughter fading from my mind
I mourn my daughter, she doesn't understand
how one day her bones will mingle with the sand
I mourn myself, reflected in the eyes of the heroes I've defeated
I am waiting for you
I am waiting for you
with seven hags and a bath of lead
Contemplate my mountain, and keep your head
There's a time for rustling raiment and a time for battle gear
I see your coracle upon the sea
Do not dream it will be easy to make an end of me
